Etiology

Infections: Viral infections (like influenza or mononucleosis), bacterial infections, and chronic infectious diseases (such as tuberculosis or AIDS) can lead to malaise .

  • Chronic Conditions: Diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, and cancer are known to cause malaise. Mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety, can also contribute to this feeling .
  • Medications: Certain medications, particularly those for high blood pressure, psychiatric disorders, and anticonvulsants, may induce malaise as a side effect .
  • Lifestyle Factors: Poor diet, lack of sleep, and inactivity can also lead to feelings of malaise.
